Touring musician, award-winning songwriter and blessed with an exceptionally resonant singing voice, JOE JENCKS is known for his exquisite and often haunting musical beauty, social consciousness and spiritual exploration. Merging conservatory training with his Irish roots and working-class midwest upbringing, he blends well-crafted instrumentals and vivid songwriting, delivering compelling musical narratives with heart, soul, groove and grit. But in the immediacy of performance, it’s first his voice that stuns an audience: Jencks reaches the far corners of any theatre with his lyric baritone voice, resonating with gorgeous tone and an edgy richness.
Jencks has penned several #1 contemporary folksongs, including the ever-relevant and poignant “Lady of The Harbor,” and has become a fan favorite throughout North America. Co-founder and primary vocal arranger for the harmony trio Brother Sun, he is in demand as an arranger, with over 30 appearances as a guest vocalist on various studio recordings.
His soaring voice inspire a standing ovation this Summer in Schenectady’s Central Park stage, part of WAMC’s inaugural “On the Road concert series Indeed, from coffeehouses to Carnegie Hall, Jencks has made a mark on the American music scene, singing and telling stories that educate, illuminate, and uplift. His regional debut at 8th Step quickly evolved into regular returns to our stage for solo shows, celebrations, and collaborations with such artists as Deidre McCalla and Susan Werner.
