The Repertory Orchestra opens with the glowing lyricism of Howard Hanson’s “Nordic” (II), the curtain-raising drama of Verdi’s Nabucco Overture, and the city-bright swagger of Gershwin’s An American in Paris Suite (arr. Whitney).
The Symphony Orchestra turns that momentum into lift: Viet Cuong’s Re(new)al powers the ensemble with a virtuosic percussion quartet, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 moves from a bold brass call to a finale that bursts with celebration, and Jacob Fanto’s Up We Go! sends the night off with a buoyant, grin-inducing launch.
