QFest 2024 and Union College Film Studies present: The People’s Joker

Friday, June 21, 2024

Featuring ROBERT WUHL and DAVID LIEBE HART in supporting roles (as well as the voices of TIM HEIDECKER, MARIA BAMFORD and BOB ODENKIRK), this autobiographically-inspired comedy reimagines the Joker’s origin, as a painfully unfunny aspiring clown (writer/director VERA DREW as Joker the Harlequin) grapples with her gender identity while unsuccessfully attempting to join the ranks of Gotham City’s sole comedy program in a world where comedy has been outlawed. Uniting with a ragtag team of rejects and misfits, she forms an illegal anti-comedy troupe that puts her on a collision course with the devious caped crusader who controls the City.

This film will include an introduction by JENNIFER MITCHELL, Union College Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Associate Professor of English, plus a post-screening Q&A with DAN CURRY, who appears in THE PEOPLE’S JOKER as Bane, and served as Head Writer and Executive Producer on THE ERIC ANDRE SHOW (Q&A to be moderated by ETHAN ULLMAN of Dave & Ethan’s 2000” Weird Al Podcast).

2024. Not rated. 92 minutes.

A part of the 2024 QFEST—LGBTQIA+ Film Series.
